Azulejo
30 x 60cm
Azulejo piece depicting a gutted fish. Framed in raw pine
The piece is executed in azulejos, traditional Portuguese ceramic tilework.
Imagery of fish, particularly sardines, are very common in Portugal.
The viscerality of the gutted fish is almost sexual.
The raw exposed chacota ceramic is something that's not often seen in azulejos, but is used here to contrast and compliment the more traditional blue and white.
