This piece features two interlaced images, entwined in a dichotomic embrace.
The piece is executed in azulejos, traditional Portuguese ceramic tilework, and framed in raw pine.

The top section was originally two pieces, one showing the comforting embrace of the figure of death, the other showing a vicious clash of two daemon-like dog figures. The combination of both pieces expresses the sense of fear and disquiet in acknowledging one's mortal form, and our fragility in an ever more perilous world.
The hands reaching up from the bottom attempt to grasp at something, but are separated from the top image.
